Places to visit in Kiev: The Mezhyhirya Residence

This is an estate in Ukraine where Viktor Yanukovych lived when he was Prime Minister and then President of Ukraine and is now a museum displaying Yanukovych’s luxurious lifestyle. Yanukovych lived in the estate from 2002 to 21 February 2014, when he fled the country during the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. I have visited this estate twice and I have to say, it is one of the most amazing places to visit while in Ukraine.

The estate is over 140 ha (350 acres) and is situated on the banks of the Dnieper river (Kiev Reservoir) in the village of Novi Petrivtsi, Vyshhorod Region. There is a yacht pier, an equestrian club, a shooting range, a tennis court and other recreational facilities as well as hunting grounds.

The estate also has an automobile museum displaying some of Yanukovich’s former exotic cars,(I will make another blog post solely on the exotic cars, so please subscribe if you haven’t already) a golf course, an ostrich farm, a dog kennel, numerous fountains and man-made lakes, a helicopter pad, and a small church.

The entire 140-hectares complex is enclosed by a five-meter tall fence along the 54 km (34 mi) perimeter.

  1. Hi Idy!
Those are some beautiful pictures taken on the estate. The weather looks gorgeous that particular day. I’m glad to learn it was opened to the public after the Ukrainian Revolution.
I read about your background and learned you studied architecture in the Ukraine and you are nearly fluent in the language. I am curious if many Nigerians have gone to the Ukraine for study over the years. If so, I wonder if this began in the Soviet Union era. I do know Cuba opens up several seats to its medical schools to foreign students each year. There are even a handful of American doctors who have received their medical education thanks to the Cuban government.
Please let me know what you may at your convenience.
    Thanks!

    • Hey Armando,
Thank you so much and yes, we were quite fortunate to go there on a day when the weather was apt.

To answer your question, yes there are hundreds of Nigerians who studied and still studying in the Ukraine and it’s been going on since the USSR era. Also, to the best of my knowledge, the Nigerians who studied medicine here have been accepted to work in Ukraine and in various countries including the U.S., provided they are able to pass the standard medical exams in said country.

I hope I was able to help. Thank you again for stopping by and have a wonderful day 🙂
