• One day the world stops spinning for women.
• One day women, girls all over the world get to use a card.
• One freaking day, we get to walk around getting compliments and flowers from loved ones and strangers.
Sometimes I think what the heck, we deserve to be celebrated by men every single day but other times I have to consciously remind myself how far women have come and to be celebrated.
So WOMEN, here are a few reasons to keep celebrating yourself and the many women around the globe;
- VOTING RIGHTS
First celebrated in 1909 in New York – one year after a women’s union strike in the city for voting rights – International Women’s Day spread predominantly through communist countries and began to spark demonstrations all over the world.
- EQUAL PAY
The aim of today is for women to have equal pay – since this is still a problem in our society, so today is still being celebrated every year.
Example: Women earn 14% less than men in the UK. Last year the #MeToo campaign also grew tremendously, after a lot of women started speaking out about sexual harassment.
- WOMEN’s STRENGTH
Our strength as women isn’t only measured by how much shit we can withstand before we are broken but by how much shit we can take even after being broken and still walk around with a big smile on our faces.
Examples: Child bearing, motherhood…etc!
Can we talk about the numerous perks and gifts attached to women’s day? It sucks when you don’t get a call, a text or even a candy as a minute appreciation that this world would be completely bland without women in this world.
Recently I was reminded of how much effort we as women have to put in just to keep our shit together….something 98% men will never understand. Walking around and making quick decisions and at the same time consulting with your EMOTION, WILL, BODY, MIND, SPIRIT and still managing fine has got to be one of the most misunderstood things about women.
To all the women out there, adding flavor to this world, achieving things and breaking boundaries locally and internationally, I say well-done, congratulations and cheers 🥂to more heights.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’s DAY💪🏾🏳️🌈
